Game testing and t-shirts

Abstract Reality´s programmers crunched all night to release a better version of our game, because it is now time for us to test Slingshot. We will have gamers and none-gamers joining our game testing group today and bring feedback.

You will find Abstract Reality in the congress hall near the Slingshot booth.

Programmers Celebration!

The programmers celebrate that they "reached" the beta version today. All the talk is in Swedish.

The programmers do their celebration dance. The producer films it.
The lead artist Jerker walks in to the room and says "what the hell is this?"
Programmer Marcus says "We are releasing our first beta"
Jerker: "the first beta?!"
Marcus: "The first beta, yeah"....continues to dance... "I hope"
The producer quickly stops to record.

... and at last, an ingame footage of our multiplayer game. Note: the players will not be able to drag a planet as in the picture. There will be an asteriod instead.

Abstract Realitys logga

Our team have had plenty of different ideas and visions to our logo "Abstract Reality". In the end the producer gave the task to one of the artists, Malin, to do the job. The result was great.

working against time

It is time for Abstract Reality to work even harder than before. It is less than two weeks before our game will be played at the congress hall in Visby, and we want our game to look its best.

We had a meeting today about arranging time schedule and working flow.
Our game is going to be amazing, but we want our audience to see an even greater game, an awesome game. That is why we are going to work our asses of to prove to our audience that Slingshot will rock!

See you all at the Visby Strand Congress Hall on 27-28 of may!http://www.gotlandgameconference.com/showfloor/games/slingshot/

Art, ships and planets

Did we write something about bringing you a mockup or perhaps a video on how our game looks like right now on the next post that we would put up on this blog? Ehm, weeell.. how about some pictures as a teaser before the real thing?
Yes we knew that you would like it.
So, here are some pictures on some of our ships and one concept (influense) picture.

Enjoy!

Team play

We at Abstract Reality are working hard against the time. We will soon be ready to start playing our game in multiplayer mode and start our next game testing section.

The graphics are doing four more 3D models of planets and textures them. They are also helping out with picture and texture to t-shirts and badges.

Abstract Realitys programmers are working hard with the editors, sound, network etc.

We will soon be able to give you a hint video, a eye candy, on how our game are looking right now. It will be uploades in our next post on this blog.

Abstract Reality meeting and booth plans

Week 17
Easter is over and some of us travelled from the island to celebrate with family and friends. The rest stayed home and worked with the project and celebrated Easter with the once at home.
We are now working on doing our first playable version of our game. We have released some alpha versions of our game, but we want some more to be done to the first playable version.

Week 16
We had a big meeting with everyone in the group where the subjects "working hours" and "doing something funny" was in focus.
The working hour issue was about people not getting on time as they should. There were some arguments and later a agreement that everyone will be on time or at least report in to the producer.

We also want to have a better team spirit within the group, so we are planning on doing something fun after the working hours. Perhaps something that will give us some inspiration. Or release some aggression? Like for example..Paintball!
The Slingshot game is developing forward. The graphics/artists are making normal maps on some of the 3D models, texturing, doing particle effects, making characters and doing the final touches on our booth.

The programmers are working with the entity editor and then focus on the network and particle system for the game.

The producer keeps contact with sponsors, writing documents, looking for all supplies to the game and to the people in Abstract Reality.

Lead designer is testing the game and writing a document on everything that he wants to be included to the first playable version of Slingshot.

For more information on code, graphic/art or perhaps game design feel free to check the crews individual blogs.

New group name

So, we at Slingshot had a temporary name for our group, we called us "team slingshot" and as you can understand the name was not something that we wanted to stick with.
Every team member had a change to pick names that they liked, and then we voted from all of those names.
There was a tie between the names "Pendelum", "Abstract Reality" and "Space dog".
After the second vote it stood clear that the name of the group would be "Abstract Reality". So from now on our team is called "Abstract Realty".

Just so you know, Abstract Reality... :-p

The slingshot team

The Slingshot team is sitting together and developing Slingshot. The graphics/artists are focusing on the texturing for all the 3D models, interface and making some implements for the models. The programmers are working with the entity editor, sprites, sound manager, components and network engine.
The designer is testing our alpha demo and gives continuous feedback on things that need to be changed.
The producer is looking for sponsors, structuring the workflow, trying to find all the things that will be needed for the game.

We have a musician who is working with the sound to our game, and we have a cinematic artist who is working with our trailer.
A meeting about the trailer is going to be arranged tomorrow.

A brief overview of the game Slingshot

Here is some basic info about our game Slingshot.

A space shooter game is something very common to the game industry. Slingshots ambition is to develop a new kind of space shooter game that does not already exist on today´s market.  We will focus on the gravitation and the team play, something that we believe does not already exist on the market, but we are not sure.

The core mechanics in the game is based on some of the traditional “space shooter” mechanics, for example the ability to let the player view his/hers protagonist from above, and control the avatar (in this case a ship) in 2 dimensions. A game that is quite similar to this description is “Asteriods”.

One of the core mechanics that makes Slingshot a bit unique is the gravitation input. It will put a player in a situation where he/she need to focus on the planets positions to navigate from point A to B so that the player can´t move the protagonist in a right angle.
Thank you for reading our development blog.
